St Mary's Church, Stow

The church, referred to as 'The Mother of Lincoln Cathedral', is a listed building grade I, standing within a scheduled monument, and dates from approx 985AD.  Phase one of the scheme saw each transept re-covered with leadwork.

A master programme for all five phases has been laid out.  Phase two (currently on site) will be re-roofing the chancel and tower; phase three re-roofing the nave; phase four stonework and other repairs; and phase five will be improving the interior for visitors and the local community.

The condition of the church was highlighted by the World Monument Fund in 2005, where it was included in their list of 100 Most Endangered Buildings.  More recently, the church was included in Frommer's List of 500 Places to See Before They Disappear.  With the help of an English Heritage/Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the first phase was finished, and the second phase is now underway.
